Do consumers care about the share of renewable energy or the carbon intensity of electricity?

Yes, they do. Energy consumption in the home is a significant contributor to personal carbon emissions, as well as household costs. By using more renewable energy and reducing carbon intensity, consumers can lower their environmental impact and save on energy bills.

The demand for sustainability is continuously growing, making it a necessity for successful consumer products: 64% of consumers rank sustainability as a top-three value driver (Simon-Kucher, 2024), and 65% look for environmentally friendly claims when making purchasing decisions (Propel Software, 2024). With over half of consumers willing to pay more for sustainable products (Simon-Kucher, 2024), it's clear that the share of renewable energy and carbon intensity of electricity are increasingly important in shaping consumer choices.
