Schneider Electric helps users better understand their homes' energy consumption

Electricity Maps’ API provides Schneider Electric with real-time carbon intensity data, powering emission tracking in the Wiser Home app.

THE CHALLENGE

Understanding the environmental impact of home energy use

Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, is committed to helping reduce global carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency as part of its broader sustainability strategy. By 2025, Schneider Electric aims to help save and avoid 800 million tonnes of CO2 for their customers

Through the Wiser app, the company wants to support consumers in reducing their household carbon footprint with improved energy efficiency and innovative features. However, monitoring the real-time environmental impact of household energy use is challenging, especially with the fluctuating carbon intensity of the grid.

THE SOLUTION

Tracking energy consumption and carbon emissions in the Wiser Home app

Schneider Electric’s Wiser Home app helps users monitor and analyze the electricity consumption within their homes. It allows users to track their consumption by device, circuit, and room, and compare energy usage with activated smart features like Eco-Mode or Away Mode. These features help users manage their home’s energy use, making it more energy-efficient and cutting energy costs.

With data from the Electricity Maps' API, Schneider Wiser helps their users better understand the carbon impact of their home’s electricity consumption. The "My Carbon Impact" feature in the Wiser Home app allows users to track their CO₂ emissions over time, offering a breakdown of their emissions by days, months, or years. Such data reveals how the carbon intensity of the grid affects the home’s emissions and allows homeowners to make more informed decisions on when and how to use energy.
